One Day Studio Workshop

If the full S&P Worshop Retreat doesn’t work for you, I will also be teaching a one day studio workshop this year. April 8th 2026 @ DHP Studio in The Plains, VA. We will start the day at 8am and finish up at 6pm followed by an optional group dinner.
Studio Newborn posing (beanbag & parent/family) will be covered as well as lighting, set up, etc. Business & Video will not be covered in the 1 day but can be added on with a 1:1 zoom after the workshop date.
Lighting
The best images are created with light and composition. I will teach you how I use light and angles to create simple but emotive newborn images. We will cover studio beanbag posing as well as parent posing in studio and lifestyle.
Shooting
This workshop isn’t about watching from a distance. You will recieve hands on help with angles and composition in camera. We will cover everything from bean bag set up, how to find your light, subject posing & video settings.
Editing
It starts with getting the right exposure & composition in camera, but we will wrap it up with editing (photo & video) and you will learn all of my tips and tricks!
I am excited to announce that the next Simple & Pure Workshop Retreat will once again be in the beautiful Hunt Country of Northern Virginia!
This workshop will be at my natural light studio located in The Plains and we will be staying overnight and photographing on location at a beautiful equestrian farm just up the road in Middleburg, VA.

What I love most about the retreat style workshop is getting to spend downtime with everyone while we talk business, life, editing, etc. From coffee to bedtime snacks, we will get to connect beyond formal workshop instruction time. There will be a Facebook group created ahead of time so you can get to know each other a bit before as well as coordinate arrivals, carpool and a text group for continued interactions and community support.
What is needed for the trip:
You & your camera bag
We will have downtime for dinners, headshots & pool nights.
I keep my 50 1.2 lens on my camera for all studio newborn sessions plus a macro for details. In home and outside I also use my 28-70 & 85mm lenses. The weather in July will be warm, so plan wardrobe accordingly & bring a swimsuit for night swims. We will plan one nice dinner and headshot swaps while we are dressed up. I will have everything on hand for a studio newborn set up and all models will be styled with wardrobe and directed by me.

Travel to Virgnia and from airport to house is responsibility of each attendee. Dulles (IAD) is best/closest airport to location. DCA and BWI are other local airport options.
